Edvald Boasson Hagen laims Opening Leader's Jersey

Edvald Boasson Hagen and Bradley Wiggins' set the stage for Team Sky as they got off to an exceptional start when Team Sky pounced on the field and claimed an eight second victory in the opening team time trial at the Tour of Qatar on Sunday.

Boasson Hagen led the powerful combination of Wiggins, Kurt-Asle Arvesen, Russell Downing, Juan Antonio Flecha, Lars-Peter Nordhaug, Ian Stannard and Geraint Thomas across the line in Doha to claim the first leaders jersey of the race.

While Sky were clear winners, there had appeared to be nothing between Cervélo TestTeam and Garmin-Transitions, who both stopped the clock in 9:49 to finish second and third, respectively.

However, Cervélo was found to have received outside assistance during the 8.2 kilometer race and as a result were disqualified by the race jury. As a result, Team Saxo Bank were elevated into third place and Cervélo handed a one-minute penalty.
