2010 Vuelta a Espana Preview |
|
Thursday, 26 August 2010 |
It's About the Teams -by Scott Dueker 2010 Vuelta a Espana – Teams The final Grand Tour of the year gives us a mix of young and old talent. The general classification battle should be intense as several teams bring riders capable of winning. Saxo Bank leads the charge with two legitimate contenders and the support staff to get it done. Andy Schleck will back up his brother Frank as team lead. Andy finished second at last month’s Tour de France. Carlos Sastre of Cervelo has placed on the podium here more than once and would like to take the top step. Caisse d’Epargne loses its returning champion, Alejandro Valverde, to a doping scandal, but still brings David Arroyo, who finished second at this year’s Giro d’Italia. Rabobank’s Denis Menchov hopes to add a 3rd Vuelta title to his 2005 and 2007 titles. Liquigas, Team Sky, and Xacobeo Galicia each bring a top ten finisher at a Grand Tour to the race. |
